Jesse Lad

Jesse Lad advises clients on a wide range of labor and employment law matters under state and federal laws, including labor relations, collective bargaining, discipline, employee privacy, and medical leave. With more than 20 years of experience, he serves as lead employment law counsel, lead labor counsel and chief labor negotiator for numerous cities, special districts, and non-profits in California. He has successfully represented clients in trial and appellate courts, and regularly handles arbitrations as well as administrative hearings.

Partnering with his clients to manage risks and achieve positive outcomes, Jesse’s approach is collaborative and pragmatic. He takes a client-focused approach to working through complex matters, ensuring they understand their options, as well as the practical consequences and legal risks associated with each potential course of action. Jesse supports his clients through the most complex administrative matters facing public agencies, regularly handling police termination cases, impasse resolution proceedings in labor negotiations, and arbitrations.

Jesse has established decades-long relationships with clients by emphasizing their needs and bringing positive energy to highly stressful situations. Jesse’s clients include the cities of Napa, Walnut Creek, Modesto, San Leandro, Larkspur, Cloverdale, Union City and Newark. He also represents the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, Delta Diablo Sanitation, the Tenderloin Housing Clinic, West Valley Sanitation District and East Bay Municipal Utility District. He served as a key member of the team that conducted an internal affairs investigation for the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART), in the officer-involved shooting death of passenger Oscar Grant. He also served as the key personnel advisor to one of the primary agencies providing public safety assistance during the Asiana Airlines flight 214 crash at San Francisco International Airport.

During law school, Jesse interned with the National Labor Relations Board and Wisconsin Court of Appeals. He now gives back to his community as a youth sports coach.
